Bed Room Night Stand

The built-in nightstands were 29" wide, 15" deep and, 24" high.   The bed is 30" high.   They had two seperated doors concealing a storage space with one shelf.   Above the nightstand is a 17" gap then the bottom of a 2 shelf book shelf 40 " high.   The book shelf had a full 3-1/2" (1x4) for a lower front piece to conceal an old 24" flourescent with a magnetic ballast.

The new nightstand will be 30" high with one 3-1/2" hi drawer, three 7-7/8" high drawers, and a white Formica top and edges.   It will have a 1x3" frame, an inset panel on the side toward the bed, and a 3/16" back.  

I'm going to machine all the 1x from 2x lumber because the price per board foot is dramatic.   And when I resaw a 2" thick board (1-1/2" actual) I loose 3/32" (kerf (1/16") and one jointer pass (1/32")) leaving 21/32" thick instead of 24/32" (normal 1x board).

I have a bandsaw, planer, table saw, and 6" jointer so I'm going to buy 2x8s then cut to len, resaw, and rip.   This means my 1x will be 21/32" instead of 24/32" (3/4) but otherwise most stuff should match.   If I have to make another jointer (or planer) pass on the original outside of the board, that'll cost another 1/32" for a total of 1/8" meaning my resulting boards will be 5/8" thick;   The trickey part is resawing 2x8s into two 1x8s.

I am making my standard shaped pulls only these will be 8" wide instead of 4".   This will make is slightly easier to open a drawer while lying in bed.

Drawer Sizing Info:
Top drawer: H1 = H2 = 3-1/2".
Lower drawers: H1 = 7-7/8" and H2 = 5-1/2".
