French Cleat Wall Storage
Back to WorkShop Storage Small Tool Stroage Power Hand Tool Storage Bins

I removed the South East wall shelves and put up french cleats.   The french cleats were 6" apart.   Then I made 10" wide boxes both 6" high and 8-3/4" high with french cleats on the upper back to hang them.   This works great as a replacement for shelves, I can hange almost anything I can think of on french cleats.

I don't have the wall space for individual tool holders so I made boxes.   The individual hand tools are in PVC tube holders.

The South East wall before, a mess, all shelves crowded, no room for anything else.

French cleats mounted on the walls where the shelves were.   These are 6" top edge to top edge.

I made the cleats from the old door facing I removed.   Just set my table saw to 45° and ripped them.   In this pic, if the bench on the bottom were the wall, the left hand cleat will be attached to the wall the right hand cleat attached to the bin.

New french cleat bins being glued.   You can see the bin's french cleat being glued on the right.   These are 10" wide and 6" high.

This is the form I made to glue the wall bins, it just holds things in place while I put glue on the mitered edges and before I put on the cauls and strap clamp.
Later I came up with clamping cauls.

I covered the corners with 2" wide packing tape so the glue wouldn't stick.

Gluing the foot pad (bumper) to the lower side of a wall bin.

I even put cleats on the upper back of the plastic drawer box.

All there, 12 6" and 10 8-3/4" wall bins in place.
