Remove LG AC
Back To HeatCool Unit Info Old AC Removal

In 2020 I replaced the 12K btu LG with a Senvillemini split.   The LG cooled OK, but was slow to cool down (not much air volume).   The LG was fairly effecient, about 10 SEER the mini split is 20 SEER and it reats (heat pump).   The most objectionable part of the LG was it's condensation contained a whole lot of rust.   The condensation pan was not painted or protected in any way.   I don't know how long the LG would have lasted due to the disentegrating condensation pan, but I really didn't like what it did to the outside of the bouse.

Old AC Removal

Rust streaks on top of grill and down the front.

Rust steaks from where grill sits to edge of concrete.   This stain is about 12" wide and 4' long.

Long shot of LG AC in the corner before anything was moved.

A little closer look at the LG AC in the corner.

AC corner with equipment moved.   You can see my metal ramps laying on the workbench, I'll use those to move the AC from the wall to the workbench.   You can also see the 2x4 screwed to the wall underneath the AC, Thats where I anchored the ramp when I installed the AC.   I'll replace the 2x4 with a longer one and triple it at the left end, so the ramp will be at an angle to miss the roll around tool box out of the pic on the left.
The white PVC feeds 150# air to under bench quick connects.

LG removed.   You can see the LG's outside cover on the workbench (left), also note under the outside cover is the steel ramp I used to slide the AC from the hole in the wall to the workbench.   Also, in the background, on the left you can see the roll-around tool box.

Outside pic of the AC's hole.   You can see one of the rust stains on the grill cover.

Closer look at the AC's hole with blocks screwed to the frame so I have something to screw the new outside panel to.   Also note the styrofoam between the vinyl and the house' sheathing.   I'll put a styrofoam panel over the plywood panel then I have some of the vinyl.

Inside pic with new panel in the hole.

You can see the screw blocks inside the old frame.   Note the hole reveals the frame of the old window AC, I'll screw the new plywood panel to this frame, so the wall should be flush.   I'll stuff this area with fiberglas then seal it with another wooden panel.

Patched wall.   Fiberglas batt plus 1/4" panel on this side.

Outside patch.   3/8" panel plus 1" of styrofoam then vinyl paneling.   I had some vinyl siding from when they sided our house, so this is a good place to patch.   It isn't beautiful but it should keep out the weather.
