Old Master BR Pics

You'll notice that some of these pics have a yellow cast to them, and others appear really white.   I changed the type of bulb in the central light fixture to daylight (4000K CFLs.

North wall.   You can see remnants of the border that ran completely around the room, even above the box board above the head of the bed.   Also better lighting.

North wall with border removed and repainted.

West wall with built-in night stands and bookcases.   Note there is a board across the top of the two bookcases that "boxes in" the head of the bed.   It would be a really tight fit to get a king in here.   Note storage at the head of the bed, it provides an angled lean-against head, the problem is there is a lot of wasted space below it and it pushes the bed out into the room about 10"!!!   The night lights inder the bookcases are only about 10" above the bed so thats a little low to illuminate a book in your lap.   This angle also shows how high the bed is compared to night stand tops and under cabinet lights.
This is where the next remodelling project will take place.

This chest is a store-bought piece I've had for about 40 years, its a little big and bulky for this bed room, I think.

The dresser is massisve for this room, thats a more distant project.

Book case and night stand.   Note the dark green tile on the night stand top, its gotta go!   The new night stand will not have green face frame and will have white formica.   The slow magnetic balast flourescent will become LED.   Also the book case only has two shelves about 20 " high each, the number will be increased and the distance decreased.   Note the stacks of books, due to wasted book shelf space.

Closer look at one of the night stands.   New night stand will have drawers.   See the high entensity light, I'm going to make the night stand higher and raise the bottom of the bookshelf, so the light under it shines on any book you want ot read in bed, hence no extra light needed.   It also occurs to me that there is a lot of clutter on the top, a lot of cords, I'm thinking about drilling a hole for the power cords in the new stand's top to reduce the cord clutter.

Night stand with doors open.   The storage is OK but anytime you put doors down low, it is inconventient to access things in the back of the storage area.   The night stands I will build will have drawers and be a little bit taller.   Also more books stacked.

Lean-against storage at head of the bed.

Bottom of the Lean-against storage is only about 4" below the door hinge, so there really isn't much storage here.   And it wastes a lot of space below the shelf down to the floor.
I once came up with a way to invisibly lock this area so I could store guns there but I didn't like the whole idea so I bought a gun safe.   You can still see part of the locking mechanism at the top of the storage area, a key was inserted into the hole (just visible on the right side) to unlock the door.

This guy's days are numbered too!
